Compton Community Veterans Memorial Project

Presented by the Walker Family Events Foundation in collaboration with Howard Martin Richardson VFW Post 5394 in Compton, California.

 

We are excited to announce the Compton Veterans Memorial Project, a heartfelt initiative honoring the brave men and women who have served our country. Supported by a generous $500 grant from the Nextdoor Kind Foundation, this special memorial altar will be unveiled at the VFW Post in Compton, CA, on November 2, 2024.  Join us for a community celebration in honor of Día de los Muertos, with food, music, face painting, horses, and plenty of fun for all ages!

 

About the Project
The Veterans Memorial project aims to unite the Compton community to create a meaningful and lasting tribute to our veterans. With contributions from local artists and community members, the memorial will serve as a place of reflection and gratitude for the sacrifices made by our service members. The memorial will be comprised of photos submitted by the families of veterans from Compton who have passed away. Submissions will be accepted through our website to be printed and featured on the memorial.

Whether they served with courage in the military or continued to make a difference after their service, this is an opportunity to recognize their sacrifice and contribution.  Let’s come together to honor the brave men and women who have served our country and community.   • We invite local businesses and community members to partner with us in support of this great cause through donations of money or materials. Your generous contributions will help us achieve our goal and demonstrate our collective appreciation for our veterans' service and sacrifices. Donors will be featured on a banner at the event.

What is the Compton Community Veterans Memorial?

The Compton Community Veterans Memorial is a special tribute to honor the veterans of our community who have passed away. This event will include a ceremony, the unveiling of a hand-crafted memorial, live music, food, and activities for families.

 

When and where is the event?

The event will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Howard Martin Richardson VFW Post #5394, located at 303 E. Palmer St., Compton, CA 90221.

 

What will happen at the event?

You can expect a formal ceremony to honor veterans, guest speakers, live music, food, kids' activities, and the unveiling of the Compton Community Veterans Memorial. It’s a family-friendly event, open to all!

 

How will the memorial be built?

The memorial will be designed and crafted out of wood by Dan Walker, Co-Founder of WFEF, along with the help of volunteers. Inspired by the annual Dia de los Muertos altar built by Army veteran April Villanueva, this beautiful altar will be foldable for easy storage and can be used every year to continue honoring our veterans.

 

How can I submit a veteran to be honored?

You can submit a veteran’s name through our online form here. We want to recognize every veteran from our community who has served.

 

How can I support the event?
