We're counting our blessings!
November 4 - the Walker Family Events Foundation (WFEF) launched our coat drive in partnership with One Warm Coat. Coats are collected on Thursdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at VFW Post 5394 in Compton. #no1cold
November 7 - delivered the first batch of freshly washed coats and sweaters to Veterans Row in West L.A.
November 11 was a quiet veterans day since all public events were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
November 12 - WFEF helped to distribute food at the weekly Operation Nourish food giveaway at VFW Post 5394 in Compton, California. We had the honor of volunteering alongside Prince Harry, who is himself a veteran. His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex helped to pack and distribute food packages throughout the event until it ended. We are grateful for his continued work in support of veterans' causes.
November 18 - we launched our sleeping bag drive. To date, we have collected 30 sleeping bags and distributed 20. We also announced our first Christmas 2020 giveaway event in partnership with Putting Love to Work.
November 19 - we woke up to the news that our Instagram post about Prince Harry's visit to the Compton VFW had gone viral! Our IG post and Operation Nourish with Compton Veterans were mentioned in write-ups by Vanity Fair, ELLE, People, and Marie Claire just to name a few.
November 21 - we volunteered at Putting Love to Work's twice-monthly food giveaway at the invitation of CEO Charlotte White. It was a wonderful experience seeing neighbors helping neighbors.
November 26 - Thanksgiving day, we stayed home for Thanksgiving. We are doing our part to #slowthespread of COVID-19 and we take all precautions when having interactions with the general public.
November 28 -along with Compton Veterans, we distributed coats, sweaters, sleeping bags, and food at Veterans Row. To date, we have collected and distributed 47 warm coats.
November 30 - we began our toy drive in support of three drive-thru Christmas giveaway events in Compton. If you would like to donate a new unwrapped toy you can bring it to the VFW at 303 E. Palmer St., Compton, CA 90221 on Thursdays between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. You can also shop from our wishlist at https://www.dollardays.com/wfef/wishlist.html
